Message from Dr. Barbara Fast

I am delighted that you are browsing in our web site and are interested in our pedagogy programs at the University of Oklahoma. The essence of our program is the extraordinary student population, a group of students brimming with enthusiasm for playing, learning, teaching and experiencing music. Teaching and music making as soloist and chamber musician are at the heart of our program. Our goal is to provide diverse teaching opportunities for students. Students have opportunities to observe and teach class piano for music majors and for non-music majors, applied piano lessons for college students, and group and private lessons for children. Many of our students supplement their income by teaching piano in some of the music schools and studios in the Norman community.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities to explore, develop and enhance their skills in music technology and the pedagogy program. The School of Music is dedicated to remaining abreast of current developments in music technology.

If you have not visited us in person, I hope that you will travel to Norman and discover for yourself that the piano pedagogy program is one of the finest in the nation. We would be pleased to have you tour our campus and participate in our activities. Norman is approximately 25 minutes south of Oklahoma City. Most of our piano pedagogy courses meet in Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Auditions are normally held on Fridays or Saturdays.

If you are a prospective student, please take a moment to look at several of the links in this site that might be of special interest to you, especially information on the audition dates and audition requirements. For general questions about the programs and auditions, contact me at I would enjoy hearing from you! For questions about admission materials that have been sent or application status, please contact Ms. Jan Russell at at (405) 325-2081 in the Graduate Music Office in the School of Music. For questions from international students about visas, TOEFL, graduate assistantships, and residency, please contact Ms. Jan Russell as well. Prospective students may be interested in viewing the School of Music Website as well.

I send you the very best wishes for a fruitful and rewarding year of music making and teaching.
