Repertoire Requirements

Bachelor of Music

A fifteen-minute audition of repertoire consisting of at least three pieces and two style periods, presented on campus or received by recording. A repertoire list of works that you have rehearsed and/or studied (even if you did not perform them in public recitals) should be submitted with application materials or presented at the beginning of the audition. Repertoire should be listed by historical period, and then alphabetically by composer. Bring 5 copies of your audition program to the audition.

Master of Music

The applicant should prepare a minimum of thirty minutes of music from memory, including works of at least three standard composers from contrasting style periods. A repertoire list of works that you have rehearsed and/or studied (even if you did not perform them in public recitals) should be submitted with the application and prescreening materials. Repertoire should be listed by historical period, and then alphabetically by composer. Bring 5 copies of your audition program to the audition.

Master of Music Education

The applicant should prepare at least twenty minutes of music from memory, including works of at least three standard composers from contrasting style periods. A repertoire list of works that you have rehearsed and/or studied (even if you did not perform them in public recitals) should be submitted with the application and prescreening materials. Repertoire should be listed by historical period, and then alphabetically by composer. Bring 5 copies of your audition program to the audition.

Doctor of Musical Arts

A pre-screening online audition of 45 minutes of solo performance is required as part of the application process. Applicants invited to campus for a live audition will audition before a committee of the graduate piano faculty. Those invited for an on-campus audition should prepare a 45 minute audition of repertoire appropriate for the doctoral level from memory. This should feature works of at least three standard composers in contrasting styles, chosen to demonstrate musicianship and technical proficiency along with various styles and historical periods from the standard repertoire. During the audition, the candidate normally performs a minimum of 35 minutes from the full program. All DMA applicants must audition in person before admission can be granted. Repertoire should be listed by historical period, and then alphabetically by composer. Bring 5 copies of your audition program to the audition.

With the approval of the applied teacher, a current MM student at the University of Oklahoma who plans to apply to the DMA program within twelve months of his/her planned graduation from the MM program may use his/her master’s degree recital as the DMA audition. The recital must meet DMA audition requirements. In order for a faculty committee to be organized to attend the recital to evaluate it for DMA application purposes, the student must inform all members of the piano faculty at least two weeks before the recital.

Doctor of Philosophy

Applicants invited to campus for a live audition will audition before a committee of the Graduate Piano faculty. Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, 25 miles north of Norman, is serviced by most major airlines.

Most major car rental companies have offices at Will Rogers Airport.
Airport Shuttle
Airport Expres offers door-to-door, to and from airport shuttle service 24 hours a day. The cost is $38 one way. Taxi fares average $45 from the airport to the University of Oklahoma. Uber transportation service is also available.
